Little Gems are a small, intimate, independent group with a collection of five pubs situated in the heart of Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire. Far from the cookie-cutter corporate style of our bigger competitors, our little gems each boast their own unique personalities and style but are united by common goals. We are all about serving up quality, seasonal, fuss-free food, keeping our bars stocked with well-kept cask ales, gins, spirits, extensive yet carefully crafted wine lists featuring over 30 wines by the glass and providing that welcoming, informal and familial atmosphere.
We pride ourselves on being everyone’s local. Little Gems are a home from home where our customers and locals can eat, drink, sit back and thoroughly enjoy the experience.
For those who hear Milton Keynes and think concrete, think again. Located in the original village, (YES THERE IS ONE) the Swan Inn MK boasts all the charms of a traditional local; a thatched roof, wooden beams, flagstone floors, an open fire, and just as importantly, quality food and drink. Serving up Modern British, seasonal menus, and daily specials, the kitchen strives to work with local suppliers and even promotes striking a deal with a chef. Bring in the fruits of your labour, your home-grown fruit and veg and they may even take money off your next meal. Winner of the “Best Pub in the South East in 2016” and “County Winner” in the Pub & Bar Awards in 2017.
On the border between Penn and Tyler’s Green, The Old Queens Head is a proper pub serving proper British grub. Very much a pub for the locals, not only has the site retained many of the buildings original features, from the two-level raftered dining area with exposed beams (which date back to1666) to its open fireplace and flagstone floor but that good old-fashioned value of hospitality. Led by its longstanding GM Tina, its dedicated team of staff are well known for their commitment to serving up that first-rate customer-centric experience, along with top-notch, seasonal dishes that everyone can enjoy. Upon request, they have separate gluten & dairy free menus and encourage children to explore their taste buds by offering smaller portions of many of the dishes on the main menu.
Great British grub in a picturesque, quintessentially British village, The Swan Inn in Denham, may be small but it strives to cater for all. Deliciously British, its seasonal menus and daily specials aim to use quality produce from the local area. Boasting separate gluten and dairy-free menus and an allergen grid, its philosophy is to cater to a customer’s every need. Vegan? Vegetarian? No problem. Let the team know and they will try their best to find you a delicious alternative. Always good to know if you have allergies or intolerances! Coupled with excellent customer service and a friendly, yet informal atmosphere, the Swan Inn makes dining out a walk in the countryside.
An eclectic mix of the old and the new, The Park Pub & Kitchen is a beautifully refurbished gastropub situated at a stone’s throw from Bedford Park on the outskirts of the town. Originally built in the 1900s, its original fireplaces, flagstones floors and beamed ceilings juxtapose beautifully with some of the more contemporary interiors and spaces, such as the more recently built light and airy garden room, the perfect venue for private functions, and the relaxed conservatory area. Bring a book and swap it from the bookcase. Catch a fish special of the day. Take some time out and soak up some rays in the urban garden. And be sure to keep an eye out for the chefs on your next visit to Bedford Park as you might spot them out and about foraging for seasonal ingredients for their dishes.
A traditional pub and restaurant close to the village of Houghton Conquest and a short drive from Ampthill in Bedfordshire, this Little Gem is all about the families. Recently shortlisted for the Best Family Pub in the Finals of the Great British Pub Awards, with its wonderful playground, football pitch, beautiful surrounding fields and child-friendly atmosphere, it makes the ideal place for that family meal out. Breakfast, lunch, dinner or Sunday roast, its menus boast lots of traditional pub favourites and are all lovingly made, where possible, using local and seasonal fare. You can even order a freshly made pizza to go!
